Welcome to BLACK ORCHID BURLESQUE
Black Orchid Burlesque was formed in 2007 by Miss Diva DisaStar and Scar Lit Hearts while discovering they shared a passion for vintage glamour and traditional burlesque. Being the pioneering and only known Burlesque Company in South Africa, Black Orchid aims to enlighten and entertain South African audiences with the classic art of Theatrical Burlesque Teese.
Since 2007, Black Orchid Burlesque has been proud to have performed their own brand of
Theatrical Teese at many venues and restaurants; such as GG's 1920's Glitz and Glamour, Touch of Madness,
Jade Lounge and Kink Bar Boutique.
We have also had the pleasure of hosting several

Black orchid offers 'Burlesque Beauties' Workshops: An introduction to Burlesque by women, for women. Ladies learn an easy to remember chair routine, and receive a fabulous Burlesque Starter Kit. These workshops are held at various venues around Cape Town, and provide perfect entertainment for Hen Nights.

Diva DisaStar
A founding member of Black Orchid Burlesque, Miss Diva DisaStar is the very personification of seductive Burlesque teese. Audiences have been hypnotized time and time again by her signature Feather Fan-tastic show, leaving them breathless when from behind her glittering fans she reveals her infamous pasties!
True to name, this sultry diva is always the first to trip over her props while gliding across the stage yet,
the true showgirl she is, turns even the clumsiest move into a glamorous finale.
Miss Diva DisaStar is certainly not for the faint hearted, and with her saucy stage personality she has
certainly mastered the art of theatrical teese.
She is definitively the temptress of the troupe, and loves to entice her victims! Oops, we mean audiences!
Scar Lit Hearts
One of the founding members of Black Orchid, Scar Lit Hearts is generally dubbed the cute one. This could possibly stem from her French Maid performance being one of her signature shows.
But Scar Lit Hearts's skills do not end at dusting like no other show girl can.
She has also mastered the art of coyly hiding all that is necessary behind twirling parasols and
displaying an unusual physical ability to grip a pole with more than her hands in her
Flaming Phoenix show.
Cute, and perhaps a little crazy, Scar Lit Hearts loves entertaining the masses.

The inevitable question everyone asks is- what is Burlesque? Directly translated, Burlesque means "in an upside down style". Burlesque does just that, it turns societies' opinions on their heads.
Burlesque usually incorporates dancing girls, variety acts, boisterous Singers, Vaudevillian magic and specialty acts. Think vintage glamour, corsets, feather boas, pasties and fascinators. Movies like Moulin Rouge made Burlesque jump into the 21st Century, but this time-honored art form has been around since the early 18th Century across Europe and America.
People are conflicted about Burlesque's more risque origins, as it relates to what is now called Strip Tease. Burlesque today is not what you would find in the strip clubs, but rather a classier and cheeky version of this entertainment, where the focus is on what you are hiding rather than what is being revealed. Artistes wear glamorous and lush costumes, use mood appropriate music, and perform acts with a satirical and saucy edge.
Over the years, Burlesque has become multi-faceted, with sub-genres such as Neo-Burlesque becoming a popular source of bawdy entertainment around the world. The common factor is always the parody and cheeky comedy associated with this theatrical entertainment. A few well known Burlesque stars are Gypsy Rose Lee, Tempest Storm, Betty Page and the ever-gorgeous Dita Von Teese.
While Black Orchid's performers stay true to the roots of Traditional Burlesque, they also add a modern day twist to a classic art form. This makes Black Orchid Burlesque the leading representative for Neo-Burlesque in South Africa. Raucous and breath-taking, Black Orchid's Artistes promise to leave you wanting more!
